THIS DAY IN HISTORY: 1779 - The College of Pennsylvania became the University of Pennsylvania. It was the first legally recognized university in America.

ACADEMICS/OPPORTUNITIES/EVENTS:

Attention Senior Parents! Can you believe it is already time to start thinking about Grad Night? Grad Night tickets are now on sale. Every graduating senior in Davis (DaVinci, DSIS, King and DHS) is welcome to celebrate at this All-night, alcohol and drug free party on Friday, June 8th from 9:30 pm- 5:00am. Visit davisgradnight.org  to purchase tickets. Tickets are $75.00 until February 1st. So get your tickets before prices go up. Ticket includes all activities, food, and raffle entry. 

 

Attention all Seniors! Be on the lookout for an email with a form for senior quotes and mocks! Quotes and votes for mock elections are due due December 8th!

 

Blue Devil Book Drive!

Bring a book to English class and make a difference for families in need.  The Blue Devil Book Drive will donate all books to the STEAC (Short Term Emergency Aid Committee) Holiday Program. English teachers will collect books during the week before and the week after Thanksgiving Break.   We will accept gently-used books for children of all ages: from babies to teenagers. Books for older readers and books in Spanish are especially needed.   Bring one, bring a bunch!  All donations will be greatly appreciated. Contact your English teacher or Mrs. Pilon in Room P-20 for more information. 

 

CLUBS:

Imagine a world without polar bears, we are not far away. Over 25,000 polar bears are at risk due to starvation and climate change. Come learn more at the WCC and the Environmental Club showing of “Before the Flood” with Leonardo DiCaprio on December 1st at 7pm at the DHS Library. An inspiration to save the world.

 

Are you interested in learning about sustainable heel and new alternative energy sources? Come to the first DSH Science café meeting and learn about UCD chemist Dr. Jesus Velasquez research in this fields as well as his life as a scientist! Don’t miss this cool opportunity to talk to a scientist this Wednesday the 29th at 2:30 pm in room S-9!

Trivia Bowl! Yay it’s that time of the year again. Trivia bowl is a super-duper competition where students answer a few questions with the chance to win an amazing prize! Applications are in N1-A, the student government room, and are due before 7th period today. Hope to see you sign up!

A friendly reminder from your School Nurse: Washing your hands is the best way to outsmart the pesky germs that love winter weather. Use soap & sing the ABC’s for best handwashing practice.

Please send news, announcements, etc. to the DHS PTA Media Listserve at DHSPTAmedia@mailman.dcn.org.Be sure to include your name, email address and phone number in case the newsletter editor has questions about your submission and also note that not every submission will be automatically included. Inclusion is at the discretion of our communications committee and is subject to timing, the appropriate venue(s), and frequency of the request(s).The newsletter is the ONLY communication tool that reaches ALL DHS families, whether they have internet access or not. The newsletter is generally published around the first of each month.  This is a great way to inform, notify or enlist parents' help for upcoming DHS school and student activities.

CAREER:

It’s time to sign-up for this month’s free Financial Literacy class to be held in the Career Center on Friday, November 17 at lunch from 12:00 – 12:42.  Pizza will be provided!  The DHS PTA, in partnership with the Yolo Federal Credit Union, is hosting this month’s class titled "Money Management, Part 2”.  The class will focus on budgeting and financial goals.  All students are welcome to attend. The class is limited to 30 students so come to the Career Center to sign up.
